Logan pushed the door and this time it opened fully. It could only have been unlocked from the outside and as Logan peered around the door he caught the back of someone turning the corner.

‘Who was it?’ said Chuck, looking over Logan’s shoulder.

‘I didn’t see them. Quick let’s follow them,’ he replied. Hunter pushed through the crowd trying to get to Logan before he could set off after their rescuer. ‘Leave them. We need to get the codes from the rooms. It’s this way,’ she said pointing in the opposite direction.

‘But,’ Logan stammered. He wanted to follow the person who had freed them but he also knew that it was imperative to get to that satellite hub and complete the mission Rose had set them. ‘Yes, fine,’ he said submissively.

‘What about him?’ said Chuck pointing to McGregor.

‘We’ll come back for you,’ said Nathaniel. ‘You’ll be back soon enough Nathaniel. Just look after that boy of yours and try and get off this facility and mountain as soon as you can,’ replied McGregor incoherently.

‘Follow me,’ said Hunter to the others. ‘We need to get to the upper floors. It won’t be easy as we won’t know exactly where each of the big five are at any one time. If I can get my phone from my apartment then I can get a location on them. We need to use the stairs as the elevators are monitored,’ she said turning a corner and heading through a door that led to the stairs.

Everyone else followed, looking around each other for any signs that they were being watched or any security cameras. Each set of staircases seemed to get longer and longer as the floor numbers disappeared below them.

‘Twenty -seven,’ said Hunter. ‘This is my floor.’ Hunter headed through the door and looked each way before pulling a key card and swiping it on the side of a door to a room. She turned and beckoned the others into her living quarters.

It was small compared to most of the other living areas in the facility, but then she was considered low in the hierarchy. ‘Nearly all of the assistants live on this floor,’ she said. ‘The big five are on twenty-eight and twentynine, with the satellite hub on the top floor, thirty.’

Chuck, Xander, Scott and Seth looked around the room. It was windowless, but numerous flat screen monitors covered one wall showing a view of the city below spread across them.

‘The downside of being on the inside of the mountain is that we have no windows or natural light. The monitors give a real time view of the city from security cameras on the outside walls,’ said Hunter.

The boys moved closer as there seemed to be some commotion going on down in the city on one of the streets. ‘What going on?’ said Chuck. Hunter turned and moved towards the screens. ‘Lucy!’ she screamed putting her hands to her head. Using a remote control she zoomed in on what was happening on the streets below.
